Ireland is a Contracting State to the ICSID Convention:

  • Signature: 30 August 1966
  • Deposit of Ratification: 7 April 1981
  • Entry into Force: 7 May 1981
  • Pursuant to Article 54(2) of the ICSID Convention, Ireland has designated “High Court” as competent for the recognition and enforcement of ICSID awards.
  • Pursuant to Article 69 of the ICSID Convention, Ireland enacted the Arbitration Act, 1980 [covering, inter alia, the ICSID Convention] (Act No. 7 of 1980); Arbitration Act, 1980 (Part IV) (Commencement) Order, 1980. (S.I. No. 356 of 1980); International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (Designation and Immunities) Order, 1980 (S.I. No. 339 of 1980) to make the Convention effective in their jurisdiction.
  • Pursuant to Article 13(1) of the ICSID Convention Ireland has made the following panel designations effective until 12 July 2010:
    - Mr. Rory BRADY, SC: Senior Counsel at Irish Bar
    - Mr. James CONNOLLY, SC: Senior Counsel at Irish Bar
    - Mr. Eoghan FITZSIMONS, SC: Senior Counsel at Irish Bar; Member, Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce
    - Mr. Ercus STEWART, SC: Senior Counsel at Irish Bar; Lecturer in Commercial Arbitration, University College Dublin and Kings Inns Law School, Dublin

Ireland is a Contracting State to the New York Convention:

  • Date of Accession: 12 May 1981
  • Entry into Force: 10 August 1981
  • Ireland will only apply the New York Convention to the recognition and enforcement of awards made in the territory of another contracting state

Ireland is a not Contracting State to the 1899 Convention for the Pacific Settlement of International Disputes:
