 Romania Arbitration

Romania is a Contracting State to the ICSID Convention:

• Signature: 6 September 1974
• Deposit of Ratification: 12 September 1975
• Entry into Force: 12 October 1975
• Pursuant to Article 54(2) of the ICSID Convention, Romania has designated “Bucharest Court and the District Courts by circumstance” as competent for the recognition and enforcement of ICSID awards.
• Pursuant to Article 13(1) of the ICSID Convention Romania has made the following panel designations effective until 31 October 2014:
  - Dr. Viorel Mihai CIOBANU: Professor of Law, Bucharest University Law School
  - Dr. Iulia Antoanella MOTOC: Professor of Public International Law, Bucharest University Law School
  - Dr. Dragos-Alexandru SITARU: Professor of Law, Bucharest University Law School
  - Mr. Victor TANASESCU: Attorney-at-Law

Romania is a Contracting State to the New York Convention:

• Date of Accession: 13 September 1961
• Entry into Force: 12 December 1961
• Romania will only apply the New York Convention to the recognition and enforcement of awards made in the territory of another contracting state & only to differences arising out of legal relationships, whether contractual or not, that are considered commercial under their national law
• With regard to awards made in the territory of non-contracting States, Romania will apply the Convention only to the extent to which those States grant reciprocal treatment

Romania is a Contracting State to both the 1899 & 1907 Convention for the Pacific Settlement of International Disputes:

• 1899 Entry into Force: 4 September 1900
• 1907 Entry into Force: 12 June 1911
