Costa Rica is a contracting state to the ICSID Convention:

  • Deposit of Ratification: 27 April 1993
  • Entry into Force: 27 May 1993
  • On 27 April 1993, Costa Rica informed ICSID that "there may only be recourse to [the ICSID Convention] where all existing administrative or judicial remedies have been exhausted."
  • Pursuant to Article 13(1) of the ICSID Convention Costa Rica has made the following panel designations effective until 26 July 2016:

  • Deposit of Ratification: 26 October 1987
  • Entry into Force: 24 January 1988 

In 2011, Costa Rica enacted legislation based on the UNCITRAL Model Law on International Commercial Arbitration as amended in 2006 and is therefore now popularly considered to be an UNCITRAL Model Law State
